LAUDERHILL, Fla. – A man was taken into custody Thursday, years after the fatal beating of a man outside of a “drug house” in Lauderhill, police said.

According to his arrest report, Rashaid Julian Labonte, now 39, was just one of multiple men who severely beat Paulesky Mauney, 47, on Oct. 20, 2019, outside a home in the 600 block of Northwest 34th Terrace.

Police said Mauney was dropped off at Broward Health Medical Center after the beating, where he died 10 days later.

According to the report, surveillance video captured Labonte and several other men repeatedly punching and kicking Mauney outside the home, causing him to fall to the ground just outside of view of the surveillance camera.

Police said one man, identified as Brandon Williams, was seen swinging a shovel in a downward motion in the area where Mauney fell.

Paulesky Mauney was severely beaten before he was dropped off at Broward Health Medical Center, where he later died.

According to the report, Labonte was later seen walking away from the area where the attack happened, holding a shovel.

Lauderhill police said Mauney was attacked because he was accused of stealing $2,000 from the alleged drug house.

Police said surveillance video shows a man, identified as Jose Coleman, standing under a carport while speaking with Labonte, Williams and several other men.

During the conversation, he pointed at Mauney, at which time Labonte and Williams followed the victim to the rear of the house, where he was attacked, authorities said.

According to the report, the video shows the group taking money from Mauney after he was on the ground and going through his wallet.

Police said Mauney eventually got up after the beating and stumbled over to the carport where Williams punched him in the face, causing him to fall to the ground again.

Williams and several other men were then seen handing over the money and other contents taken from Mauney to Coleman, authorities said.

Police said Mauney was later dragged into the home before being taken to the hospital.

Labonte faces charges of manslaughter, armed robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without the intent to kill and possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon.

It’s unclear at this time how many arrests have been made in the case.

The arrest report states, however, that the identities of some of the men depicted in the video remain unknown.

Anyone with information about the killing is asked to call the Lauderhill Police Department or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
