On April 14 at around 6:30 a.m., Juvin Applys was sitting outside of his second-floor apartment, located near the 1700 block of Northwest 60th Avenue, when police say he was approached by two masked men who were on foot.

Authorities confirmed two gunshots were fired at Applys by the masked men at close range, striking him in the back.

The report states Applys immediately fell to the ground and called for help at which time his mother came outside, rendered first aid and called 911.

Police said Applys was transported in an ambulance to Broward Health Medical Center for emergency medical care.

Applys sustained an injury to his spine, which authorities say is likely to result in permanent paralysis.

He also sustained other life-threatening injuries due to the shooting, the report stated.

Detectives revealed after further investigation that Lewis was one of the two suspects who shot Applys.

Police said Applys was unable to be interviewed due to intubation and sedation during his emergency care.

Additional information about the shooting was redacted by detectives in the publicly released report.

Jail records show Lewis is being held without bond at the Broward Main Jail.

No other arrests have been announced in connection with the shooting and a motive remains unclear at this time.
