Driver crashes into The New Solid Rock Baptist Church; father of 3 trapped in KIA among injured

WEST LITTLE RIVER, Fla. – Four people were injured, two cars were damaged — and there was a big hole in the wall of a church — after a crash on Thursday morning in northwestern Miami-Dade County.

Surveillance video shows an orange Dodge Challenger crashed through a wall into The New Solid Rock Baptist Church, at 9026 NW 22 Ave., in the West Little River area. A silver Kia nearby was crushed.

According to relatives, Ashanti Scott, 21, and Philip Hart, 33, were injured. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel took them and two others to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.

“When I got here they told me that he had a brain bleed,” said Jennifer McCain, Hart’s mother, who was outside of the hospital.

McCain said Hart, the driver who was trapped inside the crashed KIA, is a father of three. He remained in intensive care on Thursday afternoon.

“They put him in a medically induced coma and he’s intubated,” McCain said.

Meanwhile, Scott’s relatives said she underwent surgery.

Rev. Vignette Lamb said church members felt sad about the tragedy and were praying for the injured and their families. She added that another driver had recently crashed into a tree nearby.

“It has always been a problem area with speed,” Lamb said.

Miami-Dade police officers were investigating the cause of the crash.
