MIAMI – Testimony continued Monday in the trial of Kadel Piedrahita, who stands accused of murdering a 48-year-old father of three on the Rickenbacker Causeway in 2019.
Piedrahita, now 46, shot and killed Alex Palencia on Aug. 14, 2019, along the Rickenbacker Causeway in Miami. He’s charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault with a firearm.
Piedrahita claims self-defense in a shooting that prosecutors allege began with a feud between the two that culminated in a scuffle, followed by a live-streamed killing.
Jurors Monday heard the end of testimony from a Miami police officer who initially responded.
They also heard from witness Cesar Sosa; prosecutors said Piedrahita threatened him with a gun.
Palencia “had his hands covering his face” amid the attack, Sosa testified.
The shooting was captured on a number of video sources.
Jurors also saw a recording of a rant Piedrahita live-streamed in Spanish on Facebook the day before the shooting, where he specifically names Palencia.
The state alleges it was proof of bad blood between the men and reveals a motive for the murder.
