MCSO: Man falls off ladder while climbing down from roof after stealing vehicle

STOCK ISLAND, Fla. – A 32-year-old man from Key West was arrested Wednesday on Stock Island after he stole a vehicle, authorities said.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the Dolphin Deli just after 6:30 a.m. regarding a man acting erratically.

When deputies arrived, they said they spotted Justin Thomas Stalcup trying to climb down the roof via a ladder, but he fell.

Deputies said he then ran north on Maloney Avenue.

According to MCSO spokesman Adam Linhardt, Stalcup was detained a short time later and ā€œappeared to be in an erratic state of mind.ā€

He said an unoccupied vehicle was found parked nearby with the engine running and the music ā€œblaring loudly,ā€ which was later discovered to be a vehicle that had been stolen by Stalcup.

According to Linhardt, surveillance video proved that Stalcup had stolen the car.

He was arrested on charges of burglary during a state of emergency, criminal mischief with damage to property, trespassing, resisting arrest and grand theft of a motor vehicle.
