POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A quiet neighborhood near the Pompano Beach Airpark was left shaken Thursday afternoon after a double shooting left one man dead and another injured.
Residents remain on edge, asking questions about what led to the violence.
“Is it drug-related? Is it gang-related? How is it related? How did it happen? Is it safe over here?” a neighbor wondered Friday morning as police continued their investigation.
Sky 10 flew over the scene Thursday afternoon as evidence markers dotted Northeast 10th Street near 11th Avenue, where residents say they heard at least two gunshots.
11 p.m. report:
“I was in my room doing some studying, and definitely heard it, but you obviously don’t assume immediately that’s what it is,” one resident said.
Dramatic cellphone video captured first responders performing CPR on one of the victims.
That man was rushed to Broward Health North, where he was pronounced dead. A second victim, who arrived at the hospital in a private vehicle, survived with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Back at the scene, detectives focused their attention on an abandoned backpack as K-9 units and drones searched for additional clues.
“I was scared,” said witness Jessenia, who described the moment she realized something was wrong. “I feel pain in my belly. I was looking for the bathroom — I was scared.”
BSO says the surviving victim is recovering. They also confirmed a motive for the shooting remains unclear.
The investigation continues as the neighborhood seeks answers. The identities of the victims involved in the shooting has not been disclosed by BSO at this time.
