Durrell Young, who turned 16 years old in January, pulled the stolen Glock 17 out of his left pocket and tossed it in the bushes in Homestead, according to police.
According to a police arrest report, police officers arrested Young on March 7 in Homestead after he was a passenger in a red 2018 Honda Accord during a police chase.
Police officers followed the Honda after responding to a report of a group of teenage boys smoking marijuana at the Seascape Pointe Townhome Apartments, records show.
Records show Young was at the Metrowest Detention Center on Friday afternoon facing charges as an adult in two pending cases with the Homestead and Florida City police departments.
Young appeared in Miami-Dade County adult court on Friday, after correctional deputies booked him on Thursday and prosecutors filed both cases on Wednesday.
For the Homestead case, Young faced charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and carrying a concealed firearm. His bond was $10,000.
For the Florida City case, Young faced charges of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The attempted murder is a nonbondable offense. His bond for the other two charges was $15,000. Young’s arraignment hearing in adult court is on Monday.
Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Laura Cruz was set to preside over both cases.
Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
