FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Staff and authorities placed Fort Lauderdale’s Stranahan High School on lockdown Wednesday as the city’s police department investigated a threat.
According to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, an officer stationed at the Broward public school, located at 1800 SW Fifth Place, received a report of the threat at around 11:45 a.m.
Soika said the school was put on lockdown out of an “abundance of caution.”
He later said that officials lifted the lockdown and that the threats appear to stem from a case of “swatting.”
“Due to this incident, there will be an increased police presence in the area for the (school’s) scheduled release,” Soika said.
