Jail records show Elson Joseph Stuart is facing charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, assault on a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
Deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said they were called to the hospital just before 10 a.m. after receiving reports of a “disruptive patient.”
They said Stuart was yelling, cursing, and had pulled an intravenous needle out of his arm. Deputies also noted that his behavior fluctuated between “calm and aggressive” during the incident.
At one point, authorities said Stuart shoved a deputy out of a hospital room and tried to slam the door shut. He continued to resist deputies, lunging at them, pulling away, and refusing to comply as they attempted to take him into custody, according to MCSO.
Deputies said a Taser was deployed during the struggle. Stuart was eventually subdued, medically cleared at the hospital, and transported to jail.
His bond information was not immediately available.
Records show he is set to be arraigned on June 25.
