Man behind bars without bond after Miami-Dade store shooting

GLADEVIEW, Fla. – A 35-year-old felon faced eight new charges on Monday over a Fourth of July shooting at a convenience store in Miami-Dade County, records show.

The shooting caught on surveillance video was early Friday morning in the Gladeview neighborhood, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.

Mark Simmons walked into the 18th Ave. Market, at 6600 NW 18 Ave., wielding a gun, and he ordered three people to leave, according to the deputies’ arrest report.

Shortly before 6:55 a.m., Simmons fired at a customer who was unaware of his threats and managed to get away, according to the M-DCSO deputies’ arrest report.

M-DCSO deputies took Simmons to the Northside Station, at 799 NW 81 St., in the West Little River neighborhood, for questioning and arrested him at 2:30 p.m., records show.

M-DCSO correctional deputies booked Simmons at 4:45 p.m., Friday, at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he remained on Monday afternoon.

Court records show Simmons faced charges of second-degree attempted murder with a deadly weapon, four counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, criminal mischief while armed and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and shooting a deadly missile.
