MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that deputies say left a man hurt in southwest Miami-Dade on Wednesday, authorities confirmed.
Deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said they responded around midday to a McDonald’s parking lot near Southwest 67th Avenue and Bird Road, where they found a man with gunshot wounds to both legs.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported the victim to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
Deputies later located Luis Romero and a witness near Southwest 36th Street.
They said Romero was carrying a black revolver containing five spent casings consistent with being fired. Both men were taken to the MDPD’s Kendall District Station for questioning.
After being read his Miranda rights, Romero made a confession that wasn’t made public.
Deputies said the witness claimed that he had been trying to separate Romero and the victim when he heard gunfire and ran away.
Jail records show Romero is facing one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. A motive for the shooting remains unclear at this time.
As of Thursday, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond was listed as “to be set.”
