FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A man accused of making a bomb threat at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport faced a Broward County judge on Wednesday morning.
Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Angel Orlando Fernandez-Garcia on Tuesday. His threat, deputies said, led them to evacuate the lower and upper levels of Terminal 4.
According to BSO, a 911 caller told a dispatcher that Fernandez-Garcia, 30, went up to a ground transportation information booth and “requested for me to call 911 because he said that there was a bomb in the airport,” the woman is heard saying in a recording.
“He kind of freaked me out, he just walked out of the terminal,” the caller said.
Deputies with BSO’s bomb squad found no bomb, authorities said.
In court on Wednesday, a judge ordered that Fernandez-Garcia, relying on a Spanish interpreter, be held on a $75,000 bond, banned him from all airports and from possessing any weapons, ammunition or explosives.
But despite receiving a bond, Fernandez-Garcia also has an immigration hold to contend with. He remained in the BSO Main Jail as of Wednesday afternoon.
