POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — A Pompano Beach man was convicted Tuesday of murdering his wife.
Jurors found Ian Lanning guilty of first-degree murder and a Broward County judge sentenced him to life in prison.
Lanning’s wife, 53-year-old Irene Xeniti, was reported missing in 2022.
Her remains have never been found, but Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies said evidence showed Xeniti was murdered inside her home and her body had been moved somewhere else.
In 2022, Local 10 News spoke with several neighbors off-camera who said the couple was quiet, and they were stunned by Xeniti’s disappearance.
“He had let us know his ex-wife had been missing for like a month and the last time he saw her was two weeks ago and she had packed up and left,” one neighbor told Local 10 in June 2022.
Authorities said Xeniti’s daughter reported her mother missing on May 30, 2022.
Two weeks prior, deputies visited the home Xeniti shared with her husband in Pompano Beach.
Detectives said Lanning told them he had an argument with his wife, and she left their home on May 14.
But detectives found through cellphone evidence that the couple had been traveling in the area on May 20.
Detectives were given a search warrant for the home and Lanning’s car. They said they found evidence that pointed to Xeniti being murdered in the home and her body being moved.
