DAVIE, Fla. — A special holiday giveaway took place on Thursday in Davie.
Children from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County were invited to a fun event at Rick Case Volkswagen in Davie.
At the event, those kids who are between the ages of 7 and 12 years old were surprised with a holiday gift: their own bicycle.
“It’s your first form of transportation as a child, and I’m in the transportation business,” said Rick Case Automotive Group President & CEO Rita Case. “We all remember our first bicycle, the freedom. We need to get away from mom and dad. I do it because these kids need to have that freedom.”
For many of the children who attended, they were receiving their very first bike.
“I really like it,” said bicycle recipient Elie O. “I really like how it has the neon colors.”
Added bike recipient Ma’Rina: “I was very excited to come, and I’m very thankful that they picked me.”
One man surprised Case and everyone at the event, arriving with a bike his daughter no longer needs and donating it to the cause after hearing about the giveaway on TV
“This is a great thing you’re doing, and I congratulate you for it,” said David Perez.
Rick Case Bikes for Kids has been holding these events for the past 44 years, collecting over 122,000 gently used bicycles that were donated by the community and distributing them to children through the Boys & Girls Club.
