WYNWOOD, Fla. — Fans of the Miami Hurricanes were feeling the excitement on Wednesday night.
That’s because the Canes were playing in the Cotton Bowl, facing off against Ohio State in one of the College Football Playoff quarterfinals.
Fans gathered at Grails Miami restaurant and sports bar, located off North Miami Avenue near Northwest 28th Street in Wynwood, to cheer on the Canes in the big game.
Precious Wilcox joined more than 300 other Miami fans at the unofficial Hurricanes sports bar.
“Like diehard, prayers at night,” said Wilcox. “I’m telling you, top-tier. It’s all about The U, babe. Nothing matters today. I didn’t want to talk about nothing else. Don’t tell me Happy New Year. Literally all about The U. That’s it.”
The rivalry between Miami and Ohio State tracks back to the 2003 Fiesta Bowl when the Buckeyes beat the Hurricanes to win the National Championship.
“Oh you know, just a rivalry that I’ve been waiting for 20 years,” said fan Ken Bates.
In typical 305 fashion, South Floridians showed up and showed out for their Hurricanes.
“The vibe is good,” said Bates. “We got the DJ, big screens, everyone looks like they’re ready.”
