‘Had a heart of gold’: After arrest made, family remembers woman killed in Davie hit-and-run

DAVIE, Fla. — More than a year after Nicole Bobb was killed in a hit-and-run crash on a South Florida roadway, her family says the grief has not eased.

“We think about her every single day,” said her mother, Elizabeth Bobb. “I miss her.”

Nicole Bobb, described by relatives as charismatic and kind, was struck by a vehicle while walking along Flamingo Road near Southwest 26th Street in Davie shortly after 6 a.m. on Oct. 4, 2024, according to police.

Investigators said the driver fled the scene, leaving her fatally injured.

“She always had a smile on her face,” her mother said. “She had a heart of gold,” added her brother, Shane Bobb.

For nearly 15 months, Davie police searched for the person responsible. That investigation ultimately led detectives to 66-year-old Gregorio Puentes-Fuentes, who appeared before a judge in connection with Bobb’s death.

Elizabeth Bobb said what continues to haunt her family is the decision to leave.

“Just stay at the scene,” she said. “How can you just hit someone like that? He did turn around, he went home, change cars and came back but he still of course didn’t say anything.”

She said police told the family the driver returned to the area after the crash but did not report what had happened.

Nicole Bobb’s family now holds onto what remains from the day she died -- including her personal belongings and her dog, Fred, a 3-year-old Pomeranian.

“All we have left of my sister is her dog Fred,” Shane Bobb said.

Despite the long wait for answers, the family never lost hope that an arrest would be made.

“People would say it’s been too long, I don’t think they’re going to find the person,” Elizabeth Bobb said. “I said no -- I think they’re going to.”
