MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — An investigation is underway following an armed carjacking of a Corvette that occurred in Miami.
It happened Thursday around 1:20 a.m. in the area of Northwest Fifth Avenue and 30th Street.
Responding officers were told by the two victims that they were approached by a man with a gun while sitting in their car at the incident location.
The victims told police the vehicle had a GPS tracker, which helped them locate the car late in the evening.
Later in the morning, deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle at a Shell gas station located on Northwest 183rd Street and 42nd Avenue and detained the suspect.
Surveillance video shows the suspect crashing the stolen Corvette into an SUV and a gate at the Shell station.
That suspect, who has not been identified other than that he is 16 years old, was then taken into custody by Miami police.
Authorities said while trying to flee, the suspect dropped a ski mask and gun with magazine.
No injuries were reported.
