COOPER CITY, Fla. — Deputies with the Broward Sheriff’s Office arrested a teenage suspect in connection with a shooting that they say left a man hospitalized on Saturday afternoon in Cooper City.

BSO deputies identified the suspect on Tuesday as Lucas Vargas-Romero.

Authorities said an individual called 911 just after 2 p.m. Saturday to report a shooting near the 10000 block of Stirling Road.

They said deputies responded and found a man who had been shot.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue personnel transported the victim to a nearby hospital for treatment. His injuries are not considered to be life-threatening, according to investigators.

Detectives with BSO’s Crime Scene and Violent Crimes units set up a perimeter in the area and later found and took Vargas-Romero into custody.

They said he is facing one count each of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, fleeing and eluding, possession of a weapon by a juvenile, and resisting without violence.

No other details about the shooting were immediately released, and a motive remains unclear at this time.
