MIAMI — A judge suggested Monday that the 32-year-old man accused of fatally shooting a locksmith in Miami have his charge upgraded.
Luis David Lemus is accused of shooting Adrian Venereo at around 6:30 p.m. on Friday in the 6300 block of Southwest Eighth Street.
It came as Venereo, 37, was helping two people who were locked out of an apartment. Lemus, according to an arrest report, lives at the complex in the city’s Flagami neighborhood.
As family members mourn Venereo’s loss, Lemus ― arrested on a second-degree murder charge ― faced Miami-Dade Judge Mindy Glazer on Monday morning.
She suggested a first-degree murder charge.
“I don’t know if it’s a second,” Glazer said. “I think it looks like a first, but it’s up to the state to determine how they’re going to file their charges.”
Lemus is now expected back in court on Tuesday.
