MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A 17-year-old is dead, and police are searching for the shooter and a motive after a Friday evening shooting in southwest Miami-Dade.
Investigators said the teen was airlifted to a hospital, where he later died.
Miami-Dade Sheriff Office deputies are still trying to determine what led up to the shooting.
“We don’t know what led to the shooting,” a MDSO spokesperson said. “There’s a park nearby, so we’re not discarding the possibility that there was some sort of argument. Obviously, we have shots fired, and something led to that. That’s what detectives are going to be here looking for.”
The shooting happened near a park off Southwest 125th Court.
Detectives said they found a gun at the scene along with several bullet casings.
Officials also confirmed that two adults are in custody after deputies received a BOLO for a dark sedan. The vehicle was located and stopped, and the two people inside were detained. Investigators said it’s still unclear what their involvement may be.
“The two in custody are adults. However, at this time, we don’t know their involvement, if any,” the spokesperson said.
A man who identified himself as Erik said he was walking his dog when he heard multiple gunshots.
“I was walking the dog, I was going to take him to the park, and I heard shots fired,” he said. “I saw a whole bunch of kids running, and I saw the kid that got shot. He was 17. He ran into the house where the police are right now, and that was his house.”
MDSO is asking anyone with information to come forward. No arrests have been announced.
