MIRAMAR, Fla. — Police are investigating after a woman was found shot early Friday morning at an apartment complex in Miramar.
According to Miramar police spokesperson Janice McIntosh, officers responded around 2 a.m. to an initial call about a robbery near Pembroke Road and Hiatus Road.
McIntosh said that call was later updated to a shooting as investigators worked to piece together what happened.
Police said a woman was found with a gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital. Her condition has not been released.
Investigators say a man who lives at the apartment pulled the trigger, but the motive remains unclear.
“Right now, we’re still trying to find out exactly what happened,” McIntosh said. “The two persons involved were known to each other, and so obviously one person was shot. The one who was shot has been transported, and the other individual is being questioned, but he is fully cooperating with the police.”
Authorities said the two individuals knew each other and may have been in a casual relationship.
The man has been taken into custody for questioning, but it remains unclear whether he will face charges. Neither individual has been identified by police.
Police continue to investigate as neighbors woke up to a heavy law enforcement presence and a portion of the complex taped off with crime scene tape.
Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
