PALM COAST, Fla. — A now-former Miami-Dade College professor has been arrested for allegedly traveling to meet a minor.
According to authorities, 46-year-old Richard Tapia was arrested in Flagler County on July 22 after deputies said he drove an underage girl from Jacksonville to the at the Microtel Inn & Suites located at 16 Kingswood Drive in Palm Coast.
Detectives said they believe Tapia met the victim on an app.
Authorities were alerted to the girl’s location after family members pinged her cell phone and alerted detectives.
Tapia has since been charged with interference with custody of a minor, a felony offense.
The arrest report also notes authorities took his cell phone and clothing for a pending sex offense investigation.
