PLANTATION, Fla. — A tractor-trailer caught fire Wednesday morning on Florida’s Turnpike in Plantation, authorities confirmed.
Plantation Fire Rescue officials said multiple crews responded to the fire.
They said the truck driver quickly detached the trailer from the cab and safely drove an excavator off the trailer, helping protect the heavy equipment from the spreading flames.
Authorities said crews quickly extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported, and the lanes that had been blocked were reopened.
A PFR spokesperson also recognized a Broward Sheriff’s Office detective and a Hollywood Fire Rescue deputy chief who happened to be passing by and stopped to help.
Authorities said two public safety officials used their vehicles to help block traffic and protect firefighters while crews worked to put out the fire.
Officials reminded drivers to wear seat belts, avoid using their phones while driving and obey speed limits. Fire officials also urged drivers to give emergency crews plenty of room when they are working along the roadway.
