NORTH LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Nearly two months after a 62-year-old man was shot and killed following an argument over a parking spot outside a North Lauderdale Walmart, his family is still waiting for answers and says criminal charges should be filed.
Bart Diguglielmo, of Lauderhill, was shot in late June after an argument with another woman, according to deputies with the Broward Sheriff’s Office. They said the two were arguing over a parking space when Diguglielmo was shot in the stomach and fell to the ground.
Deputies said Diguglielmo was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
His daughter, Amanda Diguglielmo, described her father in an exclusive interview with Local 10 on Thursday as a devoted family man who worked as an emergency room trauma nurse for 30 years.
“He was a great man. He was a father, he was a grandfather (and) he was a brother,” she said.
Amanda Diguglielmo said her father was also a twin brother, a father of three and a sergeant in the Army.
When asked what she would miss most about her father, Amanda said, “Everything — being able to call him, have lunch, holidays, everything.”
Deputies said the woman who shot Diguglielmo claimed she fired in self-defense. But Amanda Diguglielmo and her attorney, Melissa Rodriguez, dispute that account.
“This was not a situation of self defense or stand your ground immunity. I don’t believe that the shooting was justified,” Rodriguez said. “I believe that criminal charges should be filed.”
Nearly two months after the shooting, no arrest has been made.
“Whether they find that it was justified or not, she has to live with that so really she ruined two families over a parking spot,” Amanda Diguglielmo said. “I want a full investigation and I want justice for him.”
The Broward State Attorney’s Office said its prosecutors continue to investigate the case.
