MIAMI — Surveillance video captured the moment a woman snatched a tip jar from a Miami Mexican restaurant as the man she’s with seems to act as a lookout.
It happened at around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Tacos & Cantina La Potranca’s location at 2923 Biscayne Blvd. in the city’s Edgewater neighborhood.
“When I saw the video, they made me angry,” Brisa Briones, the restaurant’s general manager, said.
The woman comes in with an empty paper bag, looks around and grabs the entire plastic tip jar, stuffing it inside the bag. Briones said it had about $200 worth of tips inside.
Afterward, Briones said restaurant staffers brought out the couple’s to-go order, “two or three” taquitos, and they left after grabbing a fistful of napkins.
Server Glendys Ramirez said the couple paid “with cash.”
Briones said staff members created the tip jar so customers with to-go orders could direct their tips to the cooks who made their food.
“The people in the kitchen work so hard,” she said. “They don’t deserve that.”
Briones said staff at the restaurant only realized the jar was missing the next day.
