HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — Police arrested a 21-year-old Hollywood man after investigating reports of someone trying to break into vehicles ― all while authorities said he was wearing a mask and was wanted for burglary in another county.

Officers with the Hollywood Police Department said they took Wayne Castellon into custody just after midnight on Tuesday.

According to investigators, HPD received reports of a suspicious person looking into vehicles late Monday night in the area of the 2600 block of Polk Street.

Responding officers observed a subject matching the description they were given, which was a person “wearing a hooded sweatshirt covering his head and full-face mask” after responding to the area.

Officers surveilled the subject, who was later identified as Wayne Castellon, for approximately two hours, watching him walk around several areas of the neighborhood while “looking over into vehicles with his light on his phone.”

Police said Castellon was seen “suspiciously walking aimlessly back and forth between the 2600 block to the 2100 block of Hollywood (Boulevard), Van Buren, Tyler, Polk and Taylor streets and in and out of the alleys continually loitering and looking into vehicles while concealing his face and lurking in the shadows,” according to an arrest form.

At one point, police said they observed Castellon stop along the 2100 block of Polk Street and “begin to urinate against residents’ trash cans on the sidewalk of the roadway” which was done “in plain view of the public as cars were driving by.”

When officers attempted to make contact with Castellon, police said he tried to run away, causing one officer to chase after him.

It didn’t take long for that officer to catch up to Castellon, with an arrest report stating the officer, “grabbed him from the backpack he was wearing, taking control of him and escorting him to the ground.”

Despite Castellon continuing to resist, police said they were able to take him into custody and found several items consistent with breaking into vehicles inside his backpack.

Castellon is now facing charges of possession of burglary tools with the intent to use, resisting an officer without violence, wearing a mask while committing a misdemeanor and exposure of sexual organs.

He is also charged with probation violation due to police discovering Castellon had an active warrant out of Palm Beach County for a case of burglary to a conveyance.

As of Thursday afternoon, Castellon was being held at the Broward County Main Jail on no bond.
