SWEETWATER, Fla. — A 43-year-old South Florida man is behind bars after police said he got fired from his job, then returned the same day and stole dozens of iPads.
Officers with the Sweetwater Police Department took Ariel Galindo into custody on Wednesday morning at his home in Hialeah.
According to investigators, Galindo previously worked at USA Co., a courier service located at 10900 NW 21st St. Sweetwater, but they were advised by the owner of the business that he had been fired for failing to show up to work two days in a row.
On Sept. 4, the same day Galindo was fired, he returned to the business in a white Chevrolet Equinox and, after putting on a face covering, entered the warehouse and removed two boxes that contained about 30 iPads worth $12,400, police said.
Police said that was confirmed to investigators by both eyewitnesses and surveillance footage, with employees and the businesses owner positively identifying Galindo as the suspect seen taking the boxes.
Detectives later learned that Galindo sold five of the stolen iPads at the PayMore pawn shop located at 16847 NW 67th Ave. in Hialeah around two hours after the initial theft took place, according to an arrest form.
As of Thursday morning, Galindo was being held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on burglary and grand theft charges, with his bond listed as “to be set.”
