MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A 72-year-old man was arrested Thursday after authorities said he struck another driver with a baseball bat during a road rage confrontation in southwest Miami-Dade.
According to an arrest report from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, Carlos Enrique Azuero, of southwest Miami-Dade, was taken into custody following the incident near Southwest 147th Avenue and Southwest 104th Street.
The report states that a deputy was dispatched to the area at approximately 4:52 p.m. after receiving a report about a fight involving a man armed with a bat.
According to the victim, he and Azuero became involved in a road rage incident while both were driving southbound on Southwest 147th Avenue, just south of Southwest 104th Street.
Deputies said both men eventually got out of their vehicles.
The victim told investigators that Azuero exited his vehicle carrying a baseball bat, approached him and swung the bat, striking him in the left arm.
According to the report, the victim said he responded in self-defense by punching Azuero twice, knocking him to the ground.
Deputies said Azuero provided a similar account of what happened.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel responded to the scene, but both men refused medical treatment, the report states.
Investigators determined Azuero was the primary aggressor and arrested him on a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
Azuero was transported to Jackson West Medical Center for medical clearance before being taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without further incident, deputies said.
As of Friday morning, Azuero remained at TGK with a bond listed in online jail records as “to be set.”
