MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A 65-year-old convicted felon recently accused of sexually abusing a 4-year-old girl at a Lowe’s in Hialeah has a criminal record going back over two decades in Miami-Dade County, records show.
Hialeah police officers arrested Jose Cremades in 2002, 2012, and 2016, and Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested him in 2019 and 2022, according to court records. Prosecutors filed third-degree grand theft charges in all five cases.
Cremades was convicted in four of the five cases and sentenced to probation, according to court records. His most recent probation ended on July 25, 2024. On Tuesday, he was back behind bars.
The 4-year-old girl told her mother on Saturday that ″the old man who had been next to her at the Lowe’s at 1650 West 37th St., had touched her” after he “lifted her skirt,” according to a police officer’s arrest report.
On Tuesday, during a forensic interview at the Kristi House Children’s Advocacy Center, the girl said Cremades “used his fingers to reach under her dress and touch ... several times,” a police officer wrote, according to the report.
“We are doing everything we can to assist local law enforcement,” a spokesperson for Lowe’s wrote in a statement on Wednesday.
Surveillance videos showed Cremades “crouched down” at a merchandise display where the 4-year-old girl was before she ran toward her mother, and “walking behind” two other girls, “as they moved through the store,” according to a police officer’s report.
The girl’s mother told police officers she and her 4-year-old daughter had attended the store’s kids workshop, and she was paying for a purchase at the register when her daughter left her side, according to the police report.
Hialeah police officers arrested Cremades on Tuesday, and Miami-Dade prosecutors filed three new cases against him on Wednesday. Two of the cases were petit theft, and the other was for lewd and lascivious molestation.
Cremades appeared before Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Mindy S. Glazer on Wednesday. She denied him bond and ordered him to stay away from the Lowe’s store in Hialeah and the victim of the lewd and lascivious molestation case.
Cremades, who was born in Cuba and lives near O’Quinn Park in Hialeah, was at the Metrowest Detention Center on Thursday with a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s hold, police and inmate records show.
Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Laura A. Stuzin was presiding over the felony lewd and lascivious molestation case. County Circuit Judge Michelle Roth was presiding over the misdemeanor theft cases.
