Jail records show Husain Maki Habib is facing one count of child abuse without great bodily harm.

Doral police said the incident occurred Wednesday night after Habib instructed the girl to turn off her tablet and get ready for bed.

According to an arrest report, Habib became upset when she did not immediately comply, took her iPad and struck it with a hammer, breaking the screen.

The girl told police that Habib then threatened to “smash her head and throw her off the balcony” if she did not listen, the report states

Police said Habib later entered the bedroom the girl shared with her older sister and allegedly pushed her to the floor and kicked her several times.

The girl also told investigators that Habib pushed her head into the floor multiple times, according to the report.

Police said girl was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. They said medical staff observed minor contusions on her lower back and near her shin, but no head injuries. The injuries were documented by crime scene personnel, according to the report.

Investigators said the victim’s 14-year-old sibling, who witnessed part of the incident, told detectives that Habib became upset over the girl’s continued use of the iPad and broke it with a hammer.

The victim’s sister said Habib then took the girl toward the bedroom, where she fell to the floor, and struck her arm with an open hand and kicked her about three times near her lower back or shin area, according to the report.

Authorities said Habib was detained at his home at about 1:43 p.m. Thursday and taken to the Doral Police Department headquarters for questioning.

Investigators said he was advised of his Miranda rights and declined to provide a statement without an attorney present.

As of Friday, he was being held on a $2,500 bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
