One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the U.S., besides skin cancers.
The statistics are sobering, but there is good news. When breast cancer is found early, it’s not only treatable. It’s beatable.
During Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Local 10’s Kristi Krueger will be filing health reports that focus on breast cancer detection and prevention.
It’s all part of a new Local 10 campaign called “Proactively Pink.” The goal is to raise awareness that early detection saves lives and significantly improves treatment outcomes. Adopting a healthier lifestyle that includes maintaining a healthy weight and exercising regularly can lower the risk of the disease.
“Proactively Pink” runs every Thursday in October, beginning Oct. 1, during the 5:30 p.m. newscast.
