LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. — Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives are investigating a shooting that left a 34-year-old man dead and another person wounded early Sunday morning in Lauderdale Lakes.

The man who died was identified by authorities Tuesday as Julmice Belone, of Fort Lauderdale.

According to BSO, someone called 911 at approximately 3:28 a.m. Sunday to report a shooting near the 3100 block of Northwest 37th Street.

Deputies responded and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Deputies immediately rendered aid before Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue personnel transported him to a local hospital for treatment, authorities confirmed.

According to deputies, they learned a short time later that a second shooting victim, later identified as Belone, had been taken to an area hospital in a private vehicle.

Belone was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to BSO.

BSO’s Crime Scene and Homicide units responded to the scene to investigate.

Detectives said their preliminary investigation revealed the shooting happened during a verbal altercation at a house party.

According to BSO, a third person involved told detectives he was attempting to deescalate the situation and that the shooting was in self-defense. That person also sustained minor injuries, authorities confirmed.

Investigators said the shooter remained at the scene and was detained for questioning before later being released.

BSO officials said detectives will present the case to the Broward County State Attorney’s Office for review once their investigation is complete.

The identities of the other people involved in the shooting have not been released.
