MIAMI - Two men were slashed with a machete Monday afternoon in Miami's Coconut Grove area, Miami Fire Rescue officials confirmed.

The incident was reported just before 3 p.m. in the area of Grand Avenue and Southwest 37th Avenue.

According to witnesses, the victim was sitting at a bus stop when a man on a pink bicycle approached him.

Police said the two began to argue when things quickly escalated and the suspect began slashing at the victim with the machete.

"He went choppy, choppy, choppy -- the white dude -- then there was blood shooting out of his head," one witness said.

According to authorities, the victim was able to grab the machete from the offender and attack him back.

"The victim was able to defend himself, take the machete away from the offender and actually stab the offender back," Miami police Comm. Freddie Cruz said.

Liza Smalls, who feeds the homeless in the area, saw the bizarre attack.

"I went to him (and) I said, 'Don't kill him. You're going to kill him.' And he stopped," Smalls said.

Both men were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center in stable condition.

Their identities have not been released.
