Rear Adm. Scott A. Buschman transferred command of the Coast Guard Seventh District to Rear Adm. Peter J. Brown.

Family, guests and the Seventh District crew were on hand for the time-honored tradition.

Buschman, who took command of the Seventh District in 2015, is transferring to Coast Guard headquarters, where he will serve as deputy commander of the Atlantic Area.

It's somewhat of a homecoming for Brown, who grew up in New York and earned a master's degree in chemistry from the University of Miami in 1991. Brown has previously served in Miami, where he was in command of the Tactical Law Enforcement Team South from 2000-02.

Brown takes command of a district that stretches from Charleston, South Carolina, to Key West and San Juan, Puerto Rico. The Seventh District is comprised of six sectors, 19 stations and five air stations, eight navigational aid teams, four marine safety units and 43 cutters.
