MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A man accused of sexually assaulting a woman at the popular Clevelander Hotel on South Beach spoke to Local 10's Roger Lohse to give his side of the story.
The alleged incident happened in the early morning of June 28. The woman, who was on vacation from Philadelphia, claims Eberto Medrano-Ramirez assaulted her on the rooftop of the hotel.
The woman admitted to police that she was highly intoxicated and was naked. She also said she doesn't even know how she ended up on the roof.
Ramirez, who is an employee at the hotel, said he was cleaning the roof, and simply tried to help her back into the elevator and took her to her room.
"I went like this to her because the elevator was closing," said Ramirez. "That's all I did. And I left and I kept working, and then at 7:30 in the morning I get a call from police saying that the girl said I touched her."
The arrest report doesn't say if the allegations are supported by surveillance video or forensic evidence, but it does claim the father of three admitted the offense.
"If you think about it, people said that I wanted to touch her sexually," said Ramirez. "But there was something wrong with her head. She was completely naked, you know what I mean?"
Police said Ramirez told detectives, "Yes, I messed up. I did what any man would do." Ramirez denies that he gave that statement to detectives.
Ramirez was fired from the Clevelander, and said he fears he will now lose his family, including his three children back in Guatemala.
Ramirez is out of jail on $10,000 bond.
Miami Beach police declined to comment on the case.
