MIRAMAR, Fla. – A man in his 20s was killed Friday night in a drive-by shooting in Miramar, officials said.
A 4-year-old girl also was taken to a hospital in connection with the shooting.
Police responded to a call around 6:30 p.m. to the shooting in the 6100 block of Southwest 40th Court.
"There's a deceased male subject in his 20s, and a child apparently was injured," Detective Natasha Richardson said.
Witnesses described the sound of gunshots they heard while driving through the Miramar neighborhood.
"Right now when I pulled up, the guy said to me, 'There's a body there.' I said, 'Oh, those were gunshots,'" Kerriann Brown said.
Brown said she lives nearby with her four children and the shootings need to stop.
"We really need a little bit more police presence or something around here," Brown said.
Police said the adult male and the child were standing together in front of the home when the shots were fired, but are not related.
The man was found dead in front of the home.
Fire Rescue personnel transported the 4-year-old girl by ground.
"The detectives are still trying to find out the connection, if he lived there, if he was visiting, if there were any witnesses that saw or knew who did this," Richardson said.
