Miami developer sends note friend Trump: 'I'm here'

Jorge Perez didn't support Trump, reaches out after win

BRICKELL, Fla. – Forbes magazine puts his net worth at more than $3 billion and Miami developer Jorge Perez is ready to reveal his latest multi-million dollar project: the SLS Brickell.

"Our buyers now are not just buying bricks and mortars, but they're buying lifestyle, we're making their lives easier," Perez said.

A lifestyle you would get at a 55-story high rise -- still getting it's final touches -- focusing on art, offering a high-end hotel and 450 private residences with world class restaurants.

"I've always wanted to have Miami become an urban center like New York, Paris, London, in which people don't have such a need for the automobile," Perez said.

And indeed that has happened from downtown to Brickell.

Perez said the international and cultural influence Miami continues to gain, and will keep the market strong here.

"When you come 10 years from now, people are going to say "Oh my God, what's happened here, this has become a world class city," he said.

Perez knows the economy has a lot to do with those in power - - specifically his good friend and once business partner President-elect Donald Trump -- who he did not support.

"I believe in a lot of things that are counter to his beliefs and I told him that," he said.

Perez said he hopes the country comes together and he wrote his friend a note when he won.

"I wrote to him and said 'Look, I didn't support you, but you're the president and I'm here.'"

Offering any of his insight, he's now hoping another billionaire, a friend, can keep everyone in mind.

"I think he needs to listen to all kinds of different points of view to come up with a right policy, to be a great president, " Perez said.  "Not just a president for the rich, you know,  but to be a president for everyone."
