National retailers have acknowledged a shortage of period products.

The shortages for tampons across the country appear to stem from supply issues with cotton and plastic.

The war in Ukraine may be affecting supply because Russia and Ukraine are both major exporters of fertilizer used to grow cotton.

The drought in Texas has also affected cotton production.

According to Bloomberg, tampon prices are up nearly 10 percent from a year ago.
