Opa-locka shooting leaves 17-year-old dead, police say

Teen pronounced dead at North Shore Medical Center

MIAMI-DADE, Fla. – The Miami-Dade Police Department is investigating a shooting in Opa-locka that left a 17-year-old dead Sunday.

Police said they were called to 2361 Northwest 140th St. at about 3:10 p.m. after reports of gunfire 

The MDPD said while they were initially unable to find the victim, despite several casings in the roadway, they learned the victim had been taken to North Shore Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The victim has been identified by authorities as Terrell Thomas. 

A man who lives at the home where Thomas was shot told Local 10 News reporter Carlos Suarez that it was a drive-by shooting and the victim didn't live at the home. 

No other details were immediately released.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. A reward of up to $3,000 is offered for information that leads to an arrest.
