Overflowing dumpsters leave diapers in street

Presidential Place in Hollywood cited, ordered to clean up

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – People who live across from an adult living facility in Hollywood claim overflowing dumpsters leave soiled mattresses and dirty diapers on their street.

"We've had dirty diapers in the middle of the street," said Richard Jacob, who lives across from Presidential Place. "I've seen feces in the diapers in the middle of the road here. They come on our property and we have had to clean it up."

Presidential Place is located at 3880 S. Circle Dr., behind the courthouse in Hollywood. Those who live nearby said a maintenance manager promises to clean up but never does, adding that the garbage attracts birds and rodents that tear apart the bags.

"At 5:30, 6 o'clock in the morning when I walk the dog, I've seen rats," said Dan Capobianco.

Among the dumpsters, Local 10 cameras spotted a soiled mattress with what appeared to be human excrement.

When Local 10 cameras showed up, there seemed to be a rush to clean and re-bag the garbage.

Local 10 sent pictures to the city of Hollywood and the next day, a code enforcement supervisor ordered a clean-up and issued violations.

Turns out, the city is well aware of the problem. City records show complaints dating back to 2007.

Presidential Place, which is operated by Chicago-based Senior Lifestyle Corporation, was fined twice last year by the city for dumpster violations.

Lori Silinskie, Vice President of Operations for Senior Lifestyle Corporation, said the company assumed operations of the facility last August.

"We are working with the city of Hollywood to resolve these outstanding sanitation issues immediately and ensure the cleanliness of our property," said Silinskie. "We apologize to our neighbors and community members who were affected by these issues."

Silinskie blamed a billing discrepancy for why dumpsters weren't emptied last week.

"We fear that it will return to this in couple weeks again. That has been the pattern. They fix it when the city gets on them and then a few weeks later it's a mess again," said Jacob.
