2 dead, 1 injured after ex-employee opens fire inside Texas business

Gunmen shoots 2 co-workers before commiting suicide

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A disgruntled employee with a shotgun killed one person and injured another Wednesday morning before shooting himself inside Knight Transportation in west Harris County, Texas, officials said.

Emergency crews were called just before 9 a.m. on reports of a man with a shotgun inside the building.

“Upon entering the facility we found that one employee had been shot and killed, another injured, and ultimately the suspect took his own life a short distance away in the same facility,” Sheriff Rick Hickman with the Harris County Sheriff's Office said during a news conference.

According to Hickman, the gunman was fired Wednesday morning. He returned later with a shotgun and a pistol but fired only the shotgun, he said.

"The individual who was terminated earlier this morning, we believe as a retaliatory act, responded with weapons and came back and initiated the shooting," Hickman said. "Probably being terminated would make him disgruntled but we don’t know yet how long he had been employed here or exactly what the reasons were."

The employee who was hurt  suffered a minor injury to the face, officials said

A Harris County deputy who hurt his knee while entering the building was taken to the hospital.

Knight Transportation is located across the street from Franz Elementary School and Morton Ranch High School, which were on lockdown.
