Fort Lauderdale restaurant ordered shut for third time in a month

Roach issue found at Marina 84 Sports Bar and Grill

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A continued roach issue forced state inspectors to shut Marina 84 Sports Bar and Grill again.

It's the third time in a month the restaurant on State Road 84, just west of Interstate 95, has been ordered shut.

Records show the restaurant was ordered shut Feb. 5, Feb. 19 and again last week on March 7.

During the inspection last week, the inspector said he saw an employee kill a roach and go back to work without washing his hands.

Below is a list of violations. Records show Marina 84 Sports Bar and Grill was allowed to re-open again on March 8 following an ordered clean up and re-inspection.

"Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found. 3 crawling on wall next to stove. 1 live in cold holding drawer underneath Stove with cooked pasta Approx. 20 crawling inside and on front of stove while food is cooking Approx. 10 crawling in gaskets of cold holding drawers underneath stove."

"Stop Sale issued due to adulteration of food product. Cooked pasta in cold holding drawers underneath stove."

"Employee failed to wash hands before changing gloves and/or putting on gloves to work with food. Cook killed roach and changed gloves without washing hands first."

***Ordered shut Feb. 18

"Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found. 15-20 live roaches crawling in dry storage underneath hand wash sink and hot water heater and ice machine There are no doors separating this room from the rest of establishment 2 live roaches under prep table at cook line."

"Dead roaches on premises. Approx. 10 in dry storage between hand wash sink and hot water heater Approx. 3 in bar near three compartment sink and northeast wall 1 dead roach inside oven 4 dead roaches under prep table at cook line. There are no doors separating this room from the rest of the establishment."

"Employee switched from working with raw food to ready-to-eat food without washing hands. Raw steak to bread."

"Accumulation of black/green mold-like substance in the interior of the ice machine."

"Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found. 5 at the end of the cook line under the stove and table."

"Employee touched bare body part and then engaged in food preparation, handled clean equipment or utensils, or touched unwrapped single-service items without washing hands. Employee washed hands after direction."

"Employee touching ready-to-eat food with their bare hands - food was not being heated as a sole ingredient to 145 degrees F or immediately added to other ingredients to be cooked/heated to the minimum required temperature to allow bare hand contact. Establishment has no approved Alternative Operating Procedure."
