Rubio's son's team pulls off amazing play

Suniland Devils run perfect Statue of Liberty play

PINECREST, Fla. – You can excuse Sen. Marco Rubio if politics isn't on his mind these days.

After seeing the trick play that his son's pee wee football team pulled off, it may be awhile before Rubio can think of anything else.

While not seen on the field during this amazing play, Rubio's son Anthony is a member of the vaunted Suniland Devils program. Rubio himself is one of the team's assistant coaches.

"Sixteen weeks, finally, the culmination of practice and it was just flawless," said assistant coach Jason Barket. "That's a fun play, so they like to do it. They couldn't wait to do it, and we needed it."

The action starts with the Devils lined up on the 6 yard line. After the snap, the fun begins as quarterback Jason Barket Jr. starts the old Statue of Liberty play with a perfect sleight-of-hand handoff.

With mass confusion on the field, running back Just Rowell scampers around the left side for the touchdown.

"I scored a little bit and it was pretty fun," said Rowell. "Then, we won the championship and we will get lots of trophies.

The video has since gone viral, prompting Rubio to tweet about it on Monday afternoon.

No word on if the Devils were victorious in the game, but the play brings to mind memories of the "Statue of Liberty" call that propelled Boise State to an upset win over Oklahoma in the 2008 Fiesta Bowl.

"We watched the Boise State play, me and my son, 100 times because it's one of my favorite plays and we mimicked that play, and if you look at the video, it's like identical. It's perfect," said Barket.
