FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A scaffolding collapse was reported Monday at a construction site on Fort Lauderdale Beach, authorities said.
The incident was reported at the Paramount building at 701 N. Lauderdale Florida.
Nearby beachgoers told Local 10 News reporter Hatzel Vela that they heard the collapse.
"We were out in the beach and all of a sudden we turned around and heard this boom," Frank Panetta said. "I wasn't sure. We heard everything -- like glasses and everything breaking."
Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Greg May said no injuries were reported.
"Earlier today a construction incident took place at the PARAMOUNT Fort Lauderdale Beach site, but we are happy to report that no one was injured," developer Daniel Kodsi said in a statement. "Safety and security are our number one priorities and we are working closely with the Stiles team to determine exactly what happened."
The collapse happened in the area where the pool is expected to be built.
"I think it comes up from even higher -- higher up from the crane, and it just fell right in," Panetta said. "That's some serious damage there."
The construction site used to be the home of a Howard Johnson hotel, which was demolished in February 2014 to make room for a high-rise residential building.
