Second arrest made in fatal shooting of pregnant woman

Gregory Medy charged with first-degree murder in Qualecia James' death

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Police have made a second arrest in the fatal shooting of a pregnant woman in Miami Gardens.

At a news conference Friday, police announced the arrest of Gregory Medy. Medy was taken into custody last week and charged with first-degree murder in the killing of Qualecia James.

The arrest comes one month after Antwone Jackson was also arrested in connection with her death.

Police said James was in a car with others near the area of 182nd Street and Northwest 32nd Avenue when another car pulled up next to them and began shooting into the vehicle.

Qualecia died at the hospital and her baby boy, Kendrick, who was delivered just before she died, died one week later.

"This is my family now, but it very well could be somebody else's – your family the next time," said Marcella Pierce, James' mother. "If there's anybody out there that has any information to bring the rest of these guys to justice please do so."

Police believe there are more people involved in the fatal shooting. They are asking anyone with any information to come forward.
