Streets closed after grass fire spreads in southwest Miami-Dade

70 acres burned, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue says

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. ā€“ A grass fire was reported Thursday afternoon in southwest Miami-Dade, authorities said.

The fire was reported in the area of Southwest 225th Street and 117th Avenue.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Lt. Felipe Lay said the fire spread to a shed in the back of a home and is burning close to businesses.

Sky 10 was above Goulds Pineland Preserve as flames were spreading at the park.

Police closed neighboring streets as firefighters worked to extinguish the flames, including Bayou Road, which was closed in both directions.

The road closures forced some residents to be stranded away from their homes.

Lay said 70 acres have burned so far and forestry officials have been called to the scene.

The fire is 40 percent contained.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
