SUNRISE, Fla. – Police arrested a driver who detectives say looked down to read a text message when he hit and killed a bicyclist on Sunset Strip in Sunrise the night of the Super Bowl.
A tip to Broward Crime Stoppers led Sunrise police to charge 26-year-old Rodney Fradin with tampering with evidence; leaving the scene of a crash involving death; and, driving with a suspended license.

Fradin told investigators he was reading a text message when he felt his vehicle drift off the roadway and heard a "clack" noise, police said. He didn't stop because his license was suspended.
Officers responding to the crash on Feb. 3 found the body of 49-year-old John Quintal and his damaged bicycle, police said.
When Fradin heard about the fatal crash, he got his vehicle repaired but failed to report his involvement, police said.
