MIAMI - A 60-year-old man who was on board a flight heading from Miami to Paris faces a federal charge after becoming unruly, authorities said.

Edmund Alexandre, of Paris, France, was a passenger on American Airlines Flight 62, which departed at 7 p.m. Wednesday from Miami for Paris.

Officials said at 9:10 p.m. Wednesday, Alexandre began arguing with another passenger and became disruptive. Officials said a flight crew member intervened and asked Alexandre to calm down.

Alexandre continued to raise his voice, left his seat and became disruptive to other passengers, officials said. As the crew member turned and walked away, Alexandre began raising his voice again, followed the crew member towards the back of the plane and grabbed the crew member's arm, according to the arrest affidavit.

It was at that time federal air marshals identified themselves and subdued and handcuffed Alexandre.

Alexandre was taken into custody, and the captain of the flight diverted the flight to Boston's Logan International Airport.

In addition to a local charge of interfering with a flight crew, Alexandre faces a similar charge in federal court.
