'Close Door' elevator buttons do nothing

Heavily-pushed buttons are optional on some elevators

MIAMI – You know that "Close Door" elevator button that you hurriedly push in a panic to get you where you need to be?

Yeah, it's probably a waste of time or, at least, a good workout for your fingers.

According to the New York Daily News, the "Close Door" buttons are often times an optional add-on put in by the elevator companies and many times it's been deactivated.

The newspaper says some building owners and managers sometimes program the button so that it's not working during the day.

Others give it a long delay to ease off on heavy door usage.

“All you do is damage the button so that it doesn’t work for the firemen,” an inspector told the newspaper.
