Restaurant facing backlash for serving Popeyes' chicken

Customers at a Long Beach restaurant are complaining after they discovered they were paying premium prices for Popeyes Louisiana Chicken, reports Los Angeles news station KABC.

Sweet Dixie Kitchen owner Kimberly Sanchez says she's been serving Popeyes spicy tenders for her chicken and waffles. The controversy was brought to light when a customer allegedly saw employees of the restaurant carrying boxes of the chicken into the kitchen. The dish sells for about $15.

In a Facebook post to the restaurant's page, Sanchez defended her use of the chicken.

"We PROUDLY SERVE Popeyes spicy tenders - the best fried chicken anywhere and from New Orleans - which are delivered twice a day."

Sanchez told KABC she's reached out to Popeyes for approval to add the chicken to her menu, but she hasn't gotten a response.
